Requirements for Derivative Citizenship

One parent must be a U.S. citizen, either by birth or naturalization.
The child must be a lawful permanent resident and in the physical and legal custody of the citizen parent.
The child must be under the age of 18 and not married at the time of application.
Process to Obtain Derivative Citizenship

Submit Form N-600, Application for Certificate of Citizenship, with documentation proving the parent’s citizenship and relationship to the child.
