Biography

Mireya Colin is a second-generation immigrant, a first-generation college and law school graduate, and a proud North Carolina native with deep family roots in Mexico. She received her B.S. in Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Juvenile Justice and honors, from North Carolina Central University in 2017, and went on to earn her Juris Doctor from Campbell Law School in 2021.

Mireya is an active ally and advocate for underrepresented and marginalized communities in the legal system. During law school, she was a member of both the Hispanic Law Students Association and the Black Law Students Association. She volunteered with four pro bono projects—the Immigrants and Refugee Rights Pro Bono Project, the Death Row Visitation Project, the Expunction Project, and the North Carolina Center for Actual Innocence. Her legal research examined policing and racial equity issues, including a substantial research paper titled Driving While Brown: From Racial Profiling to Involuntary Consent Searches.

After her first year of law school, Mireya interned with the Battered Immigrant Project at Legal Aid of North Carolina, where she worked with survivors of domestic violence seeking U Visas. That experience sparked her passion for humanitarian immigration work and laid the foundation for her career. Since then, she has focused her practice on family-based immigration and humanitarian relief, maintaining a deep commitment to serving immigrant families with compassion, diligence, and cultural awareness.

During her time in law school, Mireya received multiple book awards for earning the highest grades in Asylum and Refugee Law, Federal Indian Law, and Business Organizations.

In her spare time, she enjoys going to the gym, thrift shopping, traveling, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
