Detention Centers at Capacity, Scams, Raids & More: What Every Immigrant Needs to Know

Immigrant detention centers are currently at full capacity, with over 47,000 people in custody. This has forced ICE to seek new alternatives such as ankle monitors or, in some cases, release individuals under specific conditions. At the same time, immigration raids have intensified, and many people are being arrested—even some with no criminal record.

We also discussed a new federal government campaign promoting “self-deportation” through an app called CBP Home. While it sounds voluntary, this could lead to severe consequences like a 10-year ban on returning legally.

Another serious issue: fake immigration attorneys are scamming people by promising miraculous results, charging thousands of dollars, and leaving victims with no real legal help. Be cautious with anyone offering “guaranteed results” or who only accepts payment through apps like Cash App or Western Union. Always verify that the lawyer is licensed and truly experienced.

To make matters worse, I-9 audits are leading to the arrest of undocumented workers—especially in businesses with documentation irregularities.

All of this reflects a broader strategy of fear and pressure to force immigrants to leave the country. But all hope is not lost: there are still legal options like T Visas, U Visas, VAWA, and other humanitarian remedies that could help you stay in the U.S. legally, even if you were mistreated at work or crossed the border with a smuggler.
